RESEARCH POSITION: POST-DOCTORAL POSITION IN CROSS-CULTURAL CONSUMER SCIENCE

The Post doc projects’ aims are to clarify regulatory barriers for bringing novel foods to the market, and clarify drivers and barriers to consumer acceptance of novel food in Denmark, Asia and Africa. We seek a candidate with knowledge of the application of quantitative and qualitative consumer research methodologies, and experience in designing consumer studies in and out-side Denmark. Solid experience in survey design and statistical analysis, are preferred. Experience in building international research networks is considered important due to the projects’ international focus. Applicants must have a PhD degree in a relevant field related to food, or consumer science,  from a University or an academic institution, or must submit his/her PhD thesis before the date of employment and experience in statistical analysis of data including univariate, multivariate statistics.

RESEARCH POSITION: POST DOC POSITION IN ECOLOGICAL GENOMICS OF AROMATIC PLANTS

Are you interested to work in a collaborative project at the cross road of plant adaptation to climate change, genomics and population genetics, then the Bioinformatics Research Center at Aarhus University (Denmark) invites you to apply for a post-doctoral position in the field of evolutionary bioinformatics and ecological  genomics. The AromADAPT project is funded by the Danish council for independent research. The project involves department of Ecoscience and the Bioinformatics research center at Aarhus University.  At BiRC we focus on developing computational methods for collecting, handling and analyzing genomic data. Research ranges from formulating models and theories about genome evolution, to constructing algorithms and developing computer programs to implement new analytical methods. RESEARCH POSITION: REVIEW POSTDOC FOR IMAGE-BASED INSECT MONITORING WITH COMPUTER VISION AND DEEP LEARNING

The Department of Ecoscience, Aarhus University, invites applications for a postdoc position to strengthen our team on image recognition and deep learning in ecology. Specifically, the candidate will further develop analysis pipelines and implement sensors for automated monitoring of insects across Europe. The position is one of several early-career positions funded by the EU Horizon Europe project Modern approaches to the monitoring of biodiversity (MAMBO). Insect population declines are widely reported and a source of great ecological and societal concern. A step-change in data collection and processing is required to understand and prevent such declines. We are seeking applicants to expand our work on image-based methods for biodiversity monitoring. The project is placed within a research group aiming to improve detection and classification performance of convolutional neural network models. These models are applied to datasets containing millions of images collected to address ecological questions. Specifically, the candidate will be responsible for quantifying insect abundance, diversity, and biomass from such images and for validating model predictions. We are looking for a candidate with excellent skills in computer vision and the extraction of ecological information from image data. In particular, strong proficiency in programming in Python and R is a prerequisite. The applicant is expected to have a PhD or equivalent in biology, computer science or software engineering.

A fulltime post-doctoral position focusing on oxidation of Arctic marine volatile organic compounds is available at the Department of Chemistry at Aarhus University. The project will evolve around laboratory experiments in the AURA atmospheric simulation chamber at Department of Chemistry, Aarhus University. State of the art equipment including scanning particle mobility particle sizers (SMPS), high-resolution time-of-flight aerosol mass spectrometer (HR-TOF-AMS) and Proton transfer Reaction Mass Spectrometry (PTR-TOF) will be used. It will also involve interdisciplinary collaboration with Research Scientist Johnna Holding (Dept. of Bioscience) and Prof. Mikael J. Seier (Dept. of Bioscience). Applicants should hold a PhD degree in chemistry, physics, engineering, environmental science or similar, and have very good knowledge and experience in the field of physico-chemical properties of atmospheric aerosols. RESEARCH POSITION: POSTDOC POSITION IN DEVELOPMENT OF FORCE FIELD METHOD

Fixed charge force fields have been the workhorses for performing Molecular Dynamics simulations for several decades. As increases in computer resources have enabled longer simulations, it is increasingly becoming clear that the quality of the results in many cases may be limited by the accuracy of the force fields. Several studies have also found significant differences in the performance of different force fields, despite that they differ only in small details in their parameterization. Improved force fields, for example by including electric polarization, have not yet gained widespread use, and the results are often only marginally improved relative to fixed charge force fields. The candidate should hold a PhD degree within chemistry, physics, nanoscience or equivalent. The successful candidate should have a solid background within electronic structure methods. Experience in computer programming is a highly desirable.

This emission can be lowered by using carbon dioxide as a feedstock to produce methane, protein, and chemicals, as part of the power-to-gas, power-to-protein, and power-to-chemicals (power-to-x) transformation. Renewable power is first utilized to split water into hydrogen and oxygen gas, which can, for example, be used as electron donor and acceptor, respectively, in our 2-stage bioprocess system. This system reduces carbon dioxide into acetate with hydrogen in the first bioreactor and then oxidizes acetate with oxygen in the second bioreactor. We are looking for a post-doctoral research associate that can build and operate anaerobic gas fermentation bioreactors at the liter scale to optimize the carbon dioxide reduction bioprocess. Qualified candidates would ideally have a doctoral degree (PhD) in (micro)biology, biotechnology, bioengineering, chemical engineering, or related fields.

RESEARCH POSITION: POSTDOC IN “MODELLING CHEMICAL REACTIONS AT THE INTERFACE OF FRESHLY NUCLEATED PARTICLES”

The “Computational Atmospheric Chemistry” group at the Department of Chemistry, Aarhus University, is seeking a candidate for a fulltime 3-year postdoctoral position. The project is funded by the ERC staring grant ExploreFNP. Aerosol particles have a large impact on our global climate by scattering sunlight and potentially acting as cloud condensation nuclei (CCN). The intergovernmental panel for climate change (IPCC) has established that cloud droplet formation constitutes the largest uncertainty in global climate estimation. Half the number of formed CCN originates from freshly nucleated particles (FNPs) that grow to larger sizes. However, the formation mechanisms, composition, and properties of FNPs remain largely unknown and are very difficult to study with experimental techniques. The candidate should hold a PhD degree within chemistry, physics, nanoscience or equivalent with explicit knowledge about atmospheric chemistry is a plus.

RESEARCH POSITION: POST-DOCTORAL POSITION IN MODELLING SUBGLACIAL MELTWATER EROSION

The Department of Geoscience (DG), Aarhus University, Denmark, invites applicants for a two-year post-doctoral position in numerical modelling of meltwater erosion under ice sheets as part of the ongoing project “Dynamical modelling of subglacial meltwater erosion during past and future glaciations”. The work revolves around building a numerical model of subglacial channelized drainage over soft beds, simulating the formation of tunnel valleys, and predicting the dynamics of erosion processes under the future ice sheets. The ideal candidate has a strong background in one or several disciplines including glaciology, hydrogeology, numerical methods, and high performance computing. Interest in quantifying geological processes and experience with numerical modelling are essential. The applicants must have a Ph.D. in geoscience/geology, applied mathematics, physics, cryosphere research, or a related field by the time of appointment.
